Symptoms of Brain Fog, and How to Find Natural Relief

Brain fog is a term that is used to describe a series of cognitive symptoms. These symptoms are usually associated with particular health conditions. For example, you may experience brain fog if you are dealing with Celiac disease, fibromyalgia, or a number of other chronic conditions. However, brain fog can also be related to a lack of sleep, poor diet, nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, and the like. Stress is the number one thing that makes brain fog worse.

We’re going to take a closer look at some of the most common brain fog symptoms, and then we will discuss some natural ways to get relief.

Brain Fog Symptoms

While the symptoms of brain fog can vary from person to person, here are some of the most common symptoms that you may be dealing with:

  • Difficulty concentrating – Attention problems can make it tough to concentrate at school or at work. You may also have difficulty concentrating during a conversation, which can make it tough to remember what was said.
  • Confusion – You may find yourself confused or unable to find the right word mid-sentence.
  • Irritability – When suffering from brain fog, it may be more difficult to control your moods. Others may notice that you become more irritable.
  • Fatigue – Being low energy goes hand-in-hand with brain fog.
  • Forgetfulness/Retention difficulties – It can be difficult to recall memories, but even more difficult to retain new information. This results in forgetfulness. You may often have trouble finding your keys, remembering what you walked into a room for, or remembering the items on a list.
  • Depression – This is a commonly associated condition. Depression associated with brain fog is usually mild and temporary, but if it becomes severe or persistent, you should seek additional assistance.
  • Anxiety – Anxiety is another associated condition. You may experience panic attacks. You may also experience anxiety due to confusion or difficulty remembering things.
  • Difficulty sleeping – This is both a symptom and a cause of brain fog so it can begin a cycle that it is difficult to get out of.

Natural Ways to Control Brain Fog

Many of the natural ways to control brain fog involve lifestyle changes to get rid of the triggers or causes of the problem. A few of the natural ways to deal with brain fog include:

  • Stress management – When you are very stressed out for long periods of time, cortisol levels can get too high. This, in turn, can create the right environment for brain fog to occur. Therefore, it is important to have positive ways to cope with stress and keep cortisol levels regulated. You can use everything from stretching and meditation to vacations and supplements to try and keep stress levels down.
  • Exercise regularly – In order to fight brain fog, you have to maintain a balanced view of exercise. Moderate exercise on a daily basis can help you to deal with stress, balance your hormones, and even help you to sleep better at night. However, overdoing it with lengthy training sessions on a daily basis can wear you out physically and mentally. Your doctor can help you determine the amount of physical activity that is right for you.
  • Sleep better – A good sleep schedule is important. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day trains your body to sleep during those hours. Most people need 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night for good cognitive health.
  • Eat a healthy diet – Avoid foods that cause inflammation such as highly processed foods, refined sugars, or artificial sweeteners. Be sure to eat healthy carbohydrates because cutting out carbs altogether may actually make brain fog worse. Your brain also needs proteins and fats, particularly fatty acids like those found in fish.
  • Try an exclusion diet – To find out if you have any food sensitivities, you may want to eliminate common allergens from your diet. If you start to feel better, reintroduce the foods one at a time until you find what makes you feel bad again. Then, eliminate those foods from your diet. This is best done under the care of a physician.

By implementing some of these suggestions, you may be able to reduce your symptoms. However, supplementing with the right products can also play an important part. Here are some of the supplements that we produce at Warrior Strong Wellness that may be able to help you overcome brain fog.
